As Christians, this is our defining heartcry—to be more like Jesus. The original Greek word Christianos (Christ meaning “the anointed” and tian meaning “little”) literally translates to “little Christs,” or “little anointed ones.” We are meant to be little Jesuses.
Terror at the Cross, Transformed

With guilty relief and a strange sense of injustice, we try to grasp how in God’s just world this perfect Man would die our deaths. How could we look? How could we look away?
Kneeling and Hanging: Maundy Thursday and Good Friday

It is the Feast of the Passover.
All of the sudden, Jesus gets up from the table, takes off His garments, and girds Himself with a towel. He pours water into the basin and kneels before His closest friends, His twelve beloved disciples. As a servant would to a master, He begins washing the disciples' feet and wiping them with the towel.

I wonder whether I would have chosen not to pursue the wonderful things that I did if I had known how they would end and how I would at times feel about their endings. And, on Friday, we recognize the worst ending in the history of the cosmos: our Lord, Jesus Christ, giving Himself in complete humiliation to be crucified for the sake of a crowd that utterly rejects Him.
We Call This Friday Good

Jesus was reviled, oppressed, and afflicted. We led him like a lamb to the slaughter, to crush him with pain. He who had done no violence himself became an innocent victim of our own violence, and in spite of that, we call this Friday good.

Glory be unto God, for it is unto Him we give thanks for having brought us to this blessed Holy Week, in which we commemorate the Passion of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. What follows are just a few short reflections I have on the orders of the week, per the tradition of the Coptic Orthodox Church. The translation used is NRSV.
